What are the Available Vaccinations for Puppies?
The team here at Sandhole Vets can provide the following vaccinations for puppies:
- Parvovirus
- Leptospirosis
- Distemper
- Canine Infectious Hepatitis
- Rabies
- Herpes vaccination
- Kennel Cough
Every dog and puppy being vaccinated is booked in for a full health check to ensure they are in good health before the injection.
At Snadhole Vets in Snodland, our team believe in prevention rather than cure. Puppies and young pets need to be protected at an early age from deadly diseases. Your puppy, if exposed to any of the diseases and infections listed above could be fatal, and there are no cures. With vaccinations for puppies, if your dog contracts any of these diseases, the symptoms will be milder and they won't get so ill. It’s also essential that all puppies and dogs receive these vaccines so that they dont spread them when socialising.
What’s the Time Frame for Puppy Vaccinations?
Your puppy can receive their first vaccines, known as the main course, when they are 6 to 8 weeks old. Depending on local risk factors, two or three injections are administered, spaced two to four weeks apart. Your veterinarian will talk to you about the best choice for your pet. While they are still with their breeder, some pups will receive their first round of vaccines.
To ensure that your puppy is completely protected in public areas, we recommend waiting two weeks after their second round of vaccines before bringing them outside. After a puppy has had its first round of shots, they will only require one more shot year to maintain their immunity. These are known as annual Booster vaccines.
My Pet is a Rescue Dog- How Do I Know If They’ve Been Vaccinated?
Before a puppy becomes your pet, reputable rehoming organisations will give them a thorough medical examination and all of their recommended vaccinations. See your veterinarian for guidance if, for any reason, you are unclear if your dog has had all of its immunisations. Repleting the injection course is not harmful. Although blood tests that assess antibodies may not be useful in avoiding disease, they are occasionally recommended as a means of determining if vaccines are necessary.
What is the Cost of Vaccinations for Puppies?
Numerous variables, such as your puppy's vaccination schedule (which includes booster doses) and the type of vaccinations they are receiving, will affect the cost of their vaccinations. Two kinds of puppy vaccines are available:
Essential vaccinations: Suggested for every puppy
Non-core vaccinations: Suggested in accordance with a puppy's illness risk
The Importance of Vaccinating Your Dog
Vaccinations lay the groundwork for your puppy's health, enabling them to play, socialise, and explore the world safely. By following the recommended vaccination schedule, and keeping up with annual boosters, you’ll be able to give your puppy the best possible start in life and ensure that it grows into a joyful, thriving member of your family.
